GfAS Annual Meeting 2026

25. March - 27. March

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the GfAS Annual Meeting 2026 in Berlin!

The theme of our annual meeting is:

40 Years for Inborn Errors of Metabolism: Successes. Challenges. Future.

At this anniversary event of our society, we will look back on our activities of recent years to improve the care and treatment of patients with inborn errors of metabolism.

Over all these years, metabolic medicine has developed significantly, with almost 2000 inborn errors of metabolism known today, new genetic diagnostic and treatment methods, and an incidence of more than 1:1000 newborns affected by an inborn error of metabolism.

This year, the annual meeting will have a different structure than in recent years. We would like to provide an overview of new diseases, as well as new developments in diagnostics and treatment from the last 2-3 years. Imagine a bird’s-eye view of today’s metabolic medicine!

In addition, we have invited representatives from politics, research and clinics to discuss together on the podium the challenges for a high-quality, timely available and professionally very good care of patients with inborn errors of metabolism, as well as to focus on the challenges for the patients.

At this symposium, we would like to reconnect metabolic medicine in pediatric and adult medicine in order to work together to create further contact points for adult patients, with a view to the increasing number of adult patients with inborn errors of metabolism in the future.

We are very pleased to welcome all our GfAS members, colleagues from adult metabolic medicine (ASIM), as well as from other related fields and all other guests in Berlin to exchange ideas, discuss and plan together for the future of metabolic medicine in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

With kind regards

Yours sincerely,

Ute Spiekerkötter and Johannes Häberle
