Review of the GfAS Annual Conference 2026

Our 39th Annual Conference took place from March 25 to 27, 2026, at the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus in Berlin. The event was marked by intensive professional exchange, engaging scientific presentations, and a vibrant interdisciplinary dialogue.

The round table on “Challenges for the Care of Metabolic Patients in Germany” attracted considerable attention. Moderated by Ute Spiekerkötter and Johannes Häberle, experts from medicine, politics, and patient advocacy discussed current structural and substantive care issues. Dr. Klaus Reinhardt, President of the German Medical Association, also actively participated in the discussion.

A special highlight of the conference was the awarding of honorary membership to Prof. Nenad Blau, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the Society and the field.

During the conference, several awards were also presented: The Dr. Ursula Wachtel Poster Prize went to Beatrice Hanusch (Bochum). For the best scientific presentations, Julien Park (Münster) was honored in the clinical category, and Sebastian Hook (Hannover) in the laboratory category.

We thank all speakers, participants, and contributors for a successful and inspiring conference in Berlin and look forward to future events!
